This year, I've decided to do a scaled back project. I had something more ambitious in mind, and I started off very enthusiastically, but quickly realized that I would not want to continue the project through the whole year. Instead, I'll be making a tapestry weaving - one block each week, using yarns and other fibres that I already have (don't accumulate more) and have some relevance to the things in my life at the moment. My mantra for this year is "do less".
2018: 52 Baubles
Over the years, I'd acquired quite a collection of jewellery making supplies, and ideas, BUT I rarely took the time to actually make any pieces. This year was dedicated to using the stash. My mantra for the year was "use what you have and don't accumulate more".
During the course of the year, I realized that while I like the thought of making jewellery and I have lots of ideas, I don't really enjoy the actual process of making jewellery. I also managed to chip a tooth when I used it as a tool to close a jump ring, so that wasn't much fun either.
2017: 52 Sketches
This year, I've decided to do a sketch each week - live, on location, somewhere in the world. I enjoy sketching this way, especially when I travel, but I haven't been making it a regular habit lately, and my skills are getting rusty. Oh, and if you are wondering about the captions. I like to write down something that I hear while I'm doing the sketch.
2016: 52 Textiles
I had a hard time settling on a weekly project for this year. I knew I wanted to do something each week but it took a bit of searching to find something that inspired me. When I came up with the idea to make a textile scroll, I knew I had it. What I didn't realize, when I started was how manny memories would be wound up in the scroll - memories of the things I did during the year made their way quite naturally into my stitches, but memories from the past came up too as I used scraps of fabrics that had seen other uses at other times. It was very satisfying to watch the scroll grow though the year.
2015: 52 Books
In 2015 made 52 handmade books - more or less one each week. I didn't have many "rules" for this project - just to make a book each week and to fill them with art or writing or something. The largest one is about 12" by 6" and the smallest one is less than 1 cm square (it's really teeny). You can read more about each of the books on my blog.
